A Cup of Tea and a Chat is a still life painting depicting a table set for two with tea and biscuits. I was remembering happy moments of conversations over tea and biscuits from my past. This is set in the 1920s, well before my time, though the biscuits I chose, Jaffa cakes and Anzac biscuits are family favourites and evoke fond memories of my early adulthood in England.
This decade marked the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, introducing geometric design elements into patterns. A perfect example is a pulled-thread cotton tablecloth with intricate geometric and leaf shapes. The tea service from this period, designed by Standard China, England, showcases both geometric and floral design elements. Many of the props I use come from my collection and reflect my English heritage.
