100 Alla Prima Still life Oil Paintings
​in 100 Days by Julie Cane

In 2020, I set out to challenge myself with both artistic and personal goals. I decided to create 100 alla prima still life oil paintings in 100 days, aiming to capture the beauty of nature.

Alla prima painting, which involves completing a painting in one session, had always been an ambition of mine. I chose this challenge to refine my skills, create easily shippable works, and produce paintings within a couple of hours. However, some pieces took up to eight hours to complete. All but the first and last paintings feature subjects from the natural world.

The unexpected global pandemic added a layer of difficulty, leading to the cancellation of my planned exhibition and additional stress from fear, homeschooling my two children, and limited subject availability due to lockdowns. This challenge became more demanding than I had anticipated.

Here are a selection of time-lapse videos which show my working process for some of my favourites from this project. My process is considerably speeded up, the 100 Days Project paintings took between two and 8 hours of work each day.

Β I chose a small vase from my collection and a few bits from the recent sewing project. I set upΒ  a pleasing composition and drew a rough line drawing of my few objects on to a piece of Linen.Β

Last week was very busy, on Wednesday I had the great pleasure of a lovely afternoon out, delivering a limited edition reproduction of The Fig Tree to one of my lovely collectors, it was fabulous to meet her.
I followed this by a trip to @Redlandartgallery to see the #RedlandArtAwards2024 finalists and I must say it was a superbly presented exhibition! Here I am beside my painting, I got to see my friend @Sarahmufford `s gorgeous geometric abstract painting `Kashan`, the show is definitely worth a visit - it is open until the 28th of January.
I rounded off the afternoon with a lovely catch up over a cuppa with my friend @leighlynham.
