It is that time of year! The local insect population decided to āhelpā me with the first layer of this sketch and have enhanced this section it by adding themselves to the paint - see the black dots. Perhaps they thought it needed some wildlife š. My top tip is to wait for it to dry before dealing with them.
Back in the studio today following a week at Nationals with the Queensland and NSW juniors. I am delighted to share that I have been awarded a Highly Commended for my painting - A cup of tea and a chat, I had the pleasure of attending the opening night via Zoom on Friday. I am very grateful to Callinan Chambers for organising this art prize, and for being recognised for my endeavours. A huge congratulations to the winner for her beautiful drawing.
We had a delightful morning away from our sports trip and escaped to visit the awesome Adelaide Botanical Hardens to view the Chihuly exhibition of glass sculptures-they are amazing! Here is a selection ā¦

Had a great few hours this afternoon playing with a colour gamut for a painting with a limited colour palette. I will now test these out in a small scale sketch. There will probably be some fine tuning.
In other news the studio rebuild is progressing well, but it is a slow process. Have a fantastic weekend everyone. š
I have spent the last 6 weeks moving stuff about, it feels like a never ending game of hokey pokey! In, out, in again etc!
I have been attempting to clear the four years of clutter that built while I was studying, put up a new shed ( still a WIP) and sort my studio.
Trips to support my two and QLD junior athletes , along with a cyclone threat (missed us by a scant km - phew) to contend with have all made for plans that resemble shifting sand as they changed so fast.
This is todayās chaos, but hopefully I am near to fixing the new units to the wall and adding the work top. - please wish me luck. It has been a long journey!
It will be amazing when it is finished! (or so I keep telling myself)
Last week was very busy, on Wednesday I had the great pleasure of a lovely afternoon out, delivering a limited edition reproduction of The Fig Tree to one of my lovely collectors, it was fabulous to meet her.
I followed this by a trip to @Redlandartgallery to see the #RedlandArtAwards2024 finalists and I must say it was a superbly presented exhibition! Here I am beside my painting, I got to see my friend @Sarahmufford `s gorgeous geometric abstract painting `Kashan`, the show is definitely worth a visit - it is open until the 28th of January.
I rounded off the afternoon with a lovely catch up over a cuppa with my friend @leighlynham.

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending my graduation where I was awarded the degree of Master of Visual arts with Distinction - a busy but rewarding day! I am grateful to all the staff at QCAD Griffith University and the friends I have made particularly @stuartmeyerplath who I shared classes with and who put up with me for three and a half of the four years I was studying - thank you!

NB These are photographs!
I had a relaxing and longer than normal walk yesterday, I was plant spotting as usual and found these in the yellow colour range. I find Yellow a bright and uplifting colour. š„° #yellow #yellowflower #flower #flowerspotting #wildflowers #ornamentalfoliage
I hope you are having a great week. Hereās a throwback to 20years ago when I was painting Botanical art, theses watercolours, are still in my collection.
I have been busy this week, working on a commission and enjoying some R&R, including a picnic with my friend stuartmeyerplath, visiting the Ben Quilty exhibit at Jan Murphy Gallery, and the Peter Anderson and Kirsten Coelho at Philip Bacon Galleries. A relaxing celebration dinner to mark the end of term with my daughter, and around the suburb and the river to round off my week. Have a great weekend everyone āŗļø #juliecanefineart #brisbaneartist #rest #relax #endofterm
