This painting features one of my collection of Denby ‘Imperial Blue’ mugs. I have adored the shape of these mugs since I first saw them over 30 years ago. There is just something about the classic curved shape that appeals to me. I chose my favourite mug for this mini series of works examining non-digital communication. It expresses my delight in sitting down with a drink to chat with friends. My goal with his series was to represent every day items which facilitate in person communication. This cup is elegantly positioned on a vibrant, checkered tablecloth, surrounded by an interplay of colours—rich reds, soft greens, and bold blues—that creates a lively backdrop, enhancing the mug’s classic design.
